E is for End

We have come to the end of 2015 - it has been a great year, we made Anzac Biscuits, we went swimming, we went to a Farm, we had our end of year picnic, we had fun with kitchen science,  we made bread, we made cream and jelly and popcorn, we learnt lots of Te Reo, we learnt lots of poems, we learnt about Matariki...we've had lots of fun.

Goodbye for this year, have a great summer see you in 2016.

M is for Mahi Tahi

Wow what an amazing week.  The children did a great job in the production and I was so proud of the work that went into our act.  The children created most of the costumes themselves, with help... and there was a lot of great Te Reo learning that went on behind our song...well done Room 6.  You probably know that Tahi is one...Mahi means work/cooperate/paly.  So our item was about working and playing together as one...which is just what we did.   What a lot of fun our production was.

Ready for our flash mob to begin...

Katai o koutou waha, kumi ihora ma...close your mouth crocodiles.

F is for Farm

WOW - what an amazing day it has been.  Such a great visit to the Dairy Farm in Upper Hutt.  We've had a really great experience today - be sure to ask your child to share their adventures with you.

Thanks so much to the parents who came and helped, we couldn't have managed without your support.

I expect that all the children will sleep well tonight!!

Here are a couple of photo's to start your conversations...

Heading into the Calving Sheds

We touched and patted, watched and observed, and some kids got to feed the 2 week old calves by bottle.

We walked up to the paddock to see the 200 milking cows in their paddocks.

We took a good look at the milking machines to see how they worked.

We were ready for lunch and so grateful that the weather was on our side today.

It was a long bus ride there and back, but that's half the fun..... right!!

J is for Jan

Welcome back to the first week of term.  Hard to believe we are in the last term for the year!

This week we wrote stories about our wonderful librarian Jan.  They will be entered in a competition at the Children's Bookshop.

All the students thought hard about the great things Jan does to make our Library so awesome.  It is one of our favourite places to go.  They also worked hard to publish their stories.  Well done Room 6.

Maths was all about subitizing...lots of good learning recognising dot patterns.

Thanks to the PFG for the dots of pikelets for morning tea.

The kids were all mixed up and went all across the school to different classes  to do all kinds of fun art activities.

We spent the afternoon making our own version of the Press Here book....you will have to stop by and take a read.

THEN we had another treat....Lexi had read the book You Can Make a Happy Cake, and guess what...she did...Thanks Lexi, your happy cake sure made us happy on Dot Day!

K is for Kitchen Science

We've been having some fun with our kitchen science topic.  We spent time looking at cooling and now we are looking at mixing.  It was very timely that Miss Gargan got a special mission from New World Little Kitchen.  She made this video clip and it has been uploaded to the New World Little Kitchen Website.  We are going to be learning about heating next.  Lots of fun!

P is for poi

Our big book inspired us to make poi today.  Our kind big buddies in Room 17 did the plaiting for us in the morning, and we made our poi this afternoon.  Miss Gargan showed us a couple of moves she knows...we will have to practice lots to learn how to do these.
